Maeve loves swimming

Since we didn't get into the swimming class, the past two weeks we have gone by ourselves to open swim. Maeve loves it. She is not afraid (still trying to decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing). She doesn't mind getting her face wet and she is starting to get the concept of kicking. Kaleigh and daddy came today to watch and had a lot of fun.

My favorite girls

Someone once told me that having a sibling for your child was the best gift you could ever give them. I can already say that is the case for both Maeve and Kaleigh. They love each other!

Getting more into it

This is good stuff
Going in for more while Maeve stands by to help
She ate her first rice cereal today. Not so sure at first, but by then end she was leaning into it and opening her mouth. Maeve was there the whole time "helping" and really wanting a bite. I finally gave her a bite of the rice cereal mixed with breast milk (yuk) and she smiled and said "more". Kaleigh is slept from 7:30 pm to 5:45 am the past two nights. Really hoping she keeps it up. She takes 5 oz by bottle at daycare. She LOVES her sister and tolerates Maeve's new trick of laying on top of her! She loves to growl. She is just ADORABLE!

Kaleigh rolled over!

Kaleigh rolled over yesterday. It was so fun to see it for the first time and she looked so proud of herself. She did it one other time before she got tired and started to cry to be picked up. She knows how to work her mommy. She will follow me with her eyes all over the place and start to cry when I am out of sight. As soon as I come back into sight she is all smiles. She is also obsessed with moving and sticking out her tongue. It is really cute! Most of the time she is very laid back. Sometimes when Maeve is giving her "love", Maeve gets a little rough and Kaleigh has yet to cry after getting hit. I think both Maeve and Kaleigh have a high pain threshold. I suppose that is a good thing and may help us avoid some tears over the years.

After another busy day at work I went to pick up Maeve from daycare. While I was talking to her teacher, Lori, who Maeve loves and talks about all the time, I couldn't complete a sentence or recall the word "cherries". All day today I felt in a fog. I am sure part of it is the fact that Maeve was up at 4 am but in general, I seem to be in the state of aduhness (is that a word?). Does this happen to anyone else? I am beginning to wonder if my coworkers and the doctors I interact with will start questioning my abilities. Besides the lack of sleep I think it's because I am spending half my time thinking about being home with the girls. I hope it gets better.

Kaleigh had her 4 month appointment yesterday. She passed with flying colors. The doctor was very impressed with her growth (16.9 lbs, 26 /12 in....both above the 95%ile.....almost exactly the same as Maeve). She showed off her tummy time abilities and her eye contact. He said to stop worrying about her sleeping and that she would sleep when she was tired. I guess I will have to get use to a non-napper. Plus, I would give up all the naps for a full night sleep any day. All during her visit, Maeve was climbing on the chairs and insisting redirecting the attention back on her. Lately she has been a bit more jealous, yelling "NO" if I pick up Kaleigh. Then the next minute she is kissing her all over. Poor Kaleigh is going to have her share of colds this season. We all seem to have the persistent runny nose. Such is life with a toddler.

Kaleigh's in daycare =(

Kaleigh 19 weeks

Kaleigh officially started daycare this week. I am sure it was harder on me than her. She is definitely tired at the end of the day, wanting me and then crashing for the night. Maeve is back full time and loving daycare. Both nights I have gone to pick her up, she hasn't wanted to leave and has run away from me. (Much better than if she cried when I drop her off). But to get home by 5:30 pm, nurse Kaleigh, feed Maeve, bathe both and get them to bed.....it's exhausting. I am sure it will be second nature in a couple of months but until we get into the routine, it's crazy. Kaleigh takes it all in stride. She learned a new trick at daycare, sticking out her tongue. It was so cute.

Happy New Year 2009

On our way to the Zoolights.

Maeve's first time going potty in the chair! Kaleigh- 18 weeks old

I can't believe it is now 2009. We are settling down after the whirlwind of the holidays. My parents were a huge help over the past few weeks, watching Kaleigh so she didn't have to start daycare until January and taking over the most of the cooking! (trust me, Christmas dinner was so much more yummy with my mom cooking it!) Maeve absolutely loved having them here. Although she is still a mama's girl, at times all she wanted was grandma. She was also much more cooperative for my dad about diaper changes and getting dress....her two least favorite activities lately. Maeve is definitely a 22 month old. The drama sometimes....it makes me laugh (or want to cry depending on the moment). She wants to be naked all the time so we have starting having her sit on the potty seat if she takes off her diaper. She actually went in it yesterday! (O' what joy to only have one in diapers....and what wishful thinking on my part) Kaleigh wowed her grandparents with her smiles and cuddling ability. I think several of the days I worked, she managed to convince them to hold her all day.

Christmas was so much fun. Maeve really enjoyed opening all her presents (and most of Kaleigh's, since she slept through a lot of it). Even though we said we weren't getting much for the girls, it was an all morning event. Maeve loves her book "What's wrong, Little Pookie?" and her tent with balls. She now knows baseball and football, which makes her dad excited.

We went to the Zoolights while my parents were here. It was a beautiful night, seasonably warm for December. Maeve ran through the whole thing; being around all the people was more exciting than the actual lights. Although, now she likes looking at the lights around the neighborhood.

Kaleigh is almost 18 weeks old! She can practically sit up by herself. Her accuracy for reaching and getting toys have gotten pretty good too. She is a drooling, mouthing fool. Her two favorite toys are a giraffe and an octopus. She can roll from her back to her side and with just a little help roll from her stomach to her back. She starts daycare next week, which breaks my heart when she is so little. At least I know Maeve did fine and absolutely loves to go to "school" now. Kaleigh is doing great with sleeping at night. She goes down around 6pm, gets up once and then is back to sleep until around 7 am. I don't know what to do about her naps. She just doesn't sleep during the day and cries if I try to make her. Today she cried for 45 minutes before sleeping for only 30 minutes. I am such a believer in sleep. It stresses me out that she doesn't sleep more during the day. O'well.
My thankfuls

1. a husband that's extra sweet to me when I am sick (I had the 24 hr flu last night... YUK!)
2. cuddling with Maeve on the couch while reading her favorite books.
3. ice cream
4. a baby that sleeps so well at night
5. a toddler that sleeps so well at night and for naps
6. no traffic during the holiday season.....less time traveling to and from work
7. a husband with a flexible enough work schedule he can take time off to watch the girls while I work
8. comcast on demand.....Rolling Thunder was really funny.
9. Christmas with the family (watching my parents with my girls is the best present ever!)
10. yatzee (a fun family time past time....one night I actually got 2 yatzees in one game!)
